Danny may have coined a new phrase when describing himself as athlete: “I think at this stage of my life, I’m a social athlete.”

He runs for fun. He plays tennis with family and friends. And he does what it takes on behalf of a good cause.  He’s ridden from Seattle to Portland for Team In Training. He was part of the team that introduced Kids Marathon in Louisiana to promote healthy kids. And he pushed a wheelchair-bound athlete across the finish line at the Marine Corps Marathon.

“You don’t push a chair, the rider pulls you,” says Danny. “Your feet don’t touch the ground.”

What is your go-to workout?

“It’s still a run. Most weeks, I’m doing three to four runs, totaling about 20 to 25 miles. My go-to run is a trail at Kennesaw Mountain — around it, up and over it. My favorite time of day to run is early morning.”

What’s your daily step goal?

“It’s 12,500, and that’s an average. On any given day, I’m either below or above that. Maybe two days a week I’m well over — 24,000-25,000 steps — another two days I’m at 7,000 or 8,000. And everything else is in the middle.”

How do you incorporate steps into your day?

“I’m always pacing around the office while I’m on the phone, or I hold meetings while walking outside. I take the stairs at work, too. Tennis is a great way to build up steps. Two hours of hitting a tennis ball can easily be more than 10,000 steps. Even on my rest days I’m building up steps on an elliptical.”

Top 3 ideas to get your steps in:

  1. Play tennis
  2. Find a hilly trail
  3. Hit the elliptical
